This image is probably one of my favorites. It reminds me of the cover of The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is one of my best childhood movie memories.
I hike. A LOT. I feel my best when I am outdoors, even if it’s simply sitting in my own backyard. I also take my camera everywhere I go. Rarely do I pick a location to go shoot. I pick a location to go hike or camp and my camera is just along for the ride. Now this can pose a problem, it can take 3 hours to hike 1 mile. Well worth it.
While walking through the Redwoods in Oregon you see so many fallen trees, trees that are hundreds of thousands of years old. It’s kind of eerie. If you look around among these fallen trees you see ferns covering the forest floor! It’s seriously like a dream, something I could never have imagined. Just beautiful and...simple really. .
This photo was taken in the morning while on a hike down a dark pine needle covered path when I noticed a single fern leaf as it was unfolding. The symmetry of Mother Nature is undeniably a miracle of earth; reminding me every day that it’s never over. Those majestic fallen trees will decompose and disappear but the forest will persevere 🌱
