Porters of the Chadar trek

In the harsh winters in the high-altitude regions of Ladakh, India the Zanskar river freezes up turning literally into a highway for the village people there. These people use the frozen river as a means of transport from one small village to another as the trail roads that time are snowed in.

This frozen river has now turned into a high-altitude trek named 'Chadar', literally a carpet, with the adventurers walking over 10-15 days over the frozen river. Support guides and porters such as the ones pictured in the photo go ahead and check the ice rigidity and also haul rations to feed the trekkers during their adventures.

These guys are truly superhuman without which the Chadar trek is not possible. This photo is dedicated to them.
