Living on a small lake in west central Minnesota, we are fortunate to watch the seasonal arrival of a pair of common loons, our MN sate bird, to our small lake. They arrive the day after ice-out, and within a month they are out on the open water with their chicks, teaching them what they need to know to survive on their own in just a short time.
