He lost his family, was forced onto the street and into addiction. I bought him a gift card for some food from Sainsbury’s and when I gave it to him, he hugged me and sobbed, holding on to me like a drowning man to a life preserver. I didn’t see Tony after that for almost 6 months and didn’t know whether he was alive or dead. I came across him in November 2019 in Edinburgh. He was still on the street, but had been attending a street mission and was clean and sober!
