Sunset over Orcas Island

It was the hottest day of the year and we'd been waiting for a ferry back to Anacortes for almost 4 hours in the blazing heat, crew shortages had stranded the largest ferry in the fleet and with every sailing full, the backlog simply got worse throughout the day for the largest ferry network in the USA. The travel alert saw us arrive at the dock in time for the earlier (but delayed) sailing, but frustratingly we were about 10 cars away from getting a lucky break after an hour of waiting. The next scheduled sailing was now a further 3 hours away with the extended delay.

That delay of course brought opportunity since now we would be sailing away from Orcas Island just before sunset and we were fortunate to witness some wonderful views as vivid compensation for our over-heated waiting in the hours before. I like this photo because of the people as much as the sunset - I have dozens of sunset photos from this trip, but it's seeing the other people capture it as well that brings this one to life for me.
