The Twist

The Twist is a gallery, a bridge, and a sculpture, all in one😋

The 1000 square meter building twists into a sculptural form and spans 60 meters across the Randselva river. The building was designed by the Danish star architects BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and is named as a "must-see" cultural destination by the New York Times, Bloomberg and The Telegraph, among others.⠀
⠀
This must maybe be the most breathtaking architectural shoot I have photographed. I was waiting for the perfect day with rain and heavy skies for the dramatic expression this masterpiece deserves. ⠀
⠀
For all its drama, the Twist fits comfortably into its natural context. Approaching from the forested north bank of the Randselva, one sees a gently shimmering aluminum form that appears to hover over the ground, lined with full-height windows on perpendicular sides. The effect is minimal until the eye travels southwards where both glass and aluminum bend – the former makes a smooth transition into a tapering skylight, while the latter is formed of straight elements, each 55mm wide and with small tilts in between to resemble a stack of twisted books. The south end of the building, meanwhile, is windowless and monumental.⠀
