This image was taken on The Veluwe, the largest nature reserve in The Netherlands. Still, in this country you're never far away from civilization so the night sky was quite polluted with light. Luckily, for this image this was not an issue.
The path was created by walking from the camera around the tree and out of the frame, while shining a flashlight sideways at the ground. Then walking back towards the tree and lighting the trunk and underside of the canopy.
