From not having seen a short eared owl my life to having these great photo opportunities and experiences with this owl.
I was traveling back home from vancouver island and decided to check out this spot on the way where owls are fairly reliable to show up. Even though it was cloudy, dark and late in the dayt I put on the 1.4x teleconverter just because I want to stay as far away as I can from owls.
From afar I thought it was a female northern harrier but coming closer I checked through my binoculars and indeed it was a shorty! I spent about an hour with this owl and watched it hunt. I shot everything hand held but I wished I had brought my monopod because I had so many shooting opportunities and they were all basically at eye level. This was one of my favorite shots, I will add more in the coming days. I will probably go out later in the week and see if I can get some more different shots and perhaps record some video. The new camera and lens performed perfectly, it's almost like cheating!
