This is one of the first shots I got of crater. I like how it contrast the soft lines behind. It will also be interesting to visit it again and see how the valley behind is slowly filling up with magma.
Analysis of the lava shows that the lava come straight from the mantle, at a depth of about 17km (10 miles) where earths' crust and the mantle meet. That means that it is almost impossible to predict how long it will last.
Let's just hope that it will outlast the pandemic so that you can add it to your list of places to photograph when you come to Iceland :)
