Berlengas Fortress | Portugal

The Berlengas Fortress in the municipality of Peniche, Portugal was built in 1502. For centuries it served as an order for the Hieronymite Order or as a defensive fort of Portugal.

In 1953 the Berlengas Fortress was rebuilt with a different intention... Today the fortress houses an inn. You can even stay overnight there reportedly for only 10 euros per night!

On Berlengas, in addition to the fort, there are perhaps only a few houses. Overall, it seems that the island is inhabited by only a few million seagulls. Therefore, experiencing a sunset or sunrise at such a distance from civilization must be an unusual experience.
