I have been wanting to get this shot for many years now and have to drive 5+ hrs each way just for a chance at it.
About 15 minutes after the sunset the clouds just lit up. It was so wonderful to see. Unfortunately it was the night before I took this shot. I went out to Emerald lake the next evening in hopes of similar skies but no luck.
I don't replace skies in my photos and still not sure how I feel about it but it does fit the scene well. Emerald Lake has a great photogenic Cafe and it seems a shame to waste it.
If you have never been to Emerald Lake check it out. 30 minutes past Lake Louise into BC and lots of simple hikes and great scenery.
On a side note I managed to completely soak 3 of my 4 rainboots. lol
