A great shot, really! Just a couple of suggestions, The bowed out of focus branch is a bit distracting. I don't know how much you cropped the picture (if at all), but to move the bird to the right so it moves into the frame might help the composition. By no means an expert, just wanted to provide some feedback, which I most of the times miss.
Thank you! You actually nailed the issues I was dealing with in this image. I try not to alter the image from a add/remove perspective and was conflicted on this one. I was down low on the bank of the pond in heavy brush trying to get as near to water level as possible. This meant shooting through gaps in the brush. I also wanted to give an impression of the level of effort the bird was putting into carrying the mussel to shore. While there is a crop, mostly to remove the framing branches and level the image, moving the crop introduces more branches to the sides.
I'll work to edit out the branches in the bottom of the image and post it. I would love your impressions of the new version.
