Spectacular, wild. The blue sky contrasts very well with the color of the earth. The highlands in its purest form.
I love it. Congratulations and my like
Thank you,
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Hi Juergen, Great image!
My company manufactures atmospheric monitors that are used in the mining industry in South America, especially Peru. I've been there many times, but only for business. Most of the mines are above 15000 feet, and a couple are above the 16,000 foot level. Only authorized visitors are allowed at the mines. You get there by means of a mine owned vehicle on a jeep track that limits your speed to under 25 mph. It takes 8 - 10 hours driving from the nearest town across the Altoplano to the mines. Staying awake is very hard, and the hypoxic air plays tricks with your mind. I remember once when I looked out the window and saw what I thought were several white, ostrich sized birds standing by the edge of the road, only to realize that they were ducks magnified and distorted by my tunnel vision.
Unfortunately, the mine operators are not interested in stopping for photo breaks, so I don't have a lot of images to show for all of my visits.
The "High Plains" have some of the most amazing landscapes in the world!
Again, great image! I hope you post a few more.
Hi Robert,
Many thanks! I agree, the altiplano is an amazing landscape and I can confirm your experience with the hypoxic air. We stayed for a couple of weeks, after a few days it gets much better. But still, you can't drive to all locations and hiking with a full backpack at that altitude can be challenging.
Just posted another one. Hope you like it.
