My guide waits patiently as my partner and I take in the awe-inspiring view of the snowy mountains. There is a brief moment of contemplation and a surge of anticipation and excitement as we are finally within sight of Everest Base Camp after a gruelling nine days of hiking.
The tents of aspiring Everest summiters dot the distance, flanked on either side by imposing mountains and the savagely unforgiving Khumbu Icefall and Khumbu Glacier. The scale of the mountains is jaw-dropping as their peaks ascend high into the heavens, hidden from view behind thick clouds.
