Amateur horse racing in Ireland is a popular day out for families and an important event for many rural communities in Donegal. Jockeys as young as 10 years old hone their skill and build experience in the hope of being apprenticed and turning professional when they reach 16. The horses are often part of the family, with everyone involved in their care and training.
Shot on a Nikon D5 + Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. ISO 600, 1/2500, f/4.9 (yeah that's a weird one but EXIF doesn't lie!) at 70mm. Edited in Lightroom to adjust levels, sharpen and crop.
I learned to shoot horse racing with a Pentax K1000 and a couple of Vivitar lenses back in the 80s. The days of pre-focusing and film. The days when I rode, which gave me a great insight into how horses move and behave. Practical experience is the best education.
Great action shot Clare. Super sharp and good framing.
Thank you for your kind comment Huub. It's one of my favourite subjects.
