Jobbarer Boli Khela: A Century-Old Tradition of Strength and Spirit.

Boli Khela, a traditional form of wrestling, has been part of Bangladeshi culture for generations. Among the many regional events, Jobbarer Boli Khela in Chattogram stands out as the most iconic. Founded in 1909 by Abdul Jabbar Saodagor, the tournament was inspired by the spirit of anti-colonialism and aimed to build physical strength among the youth.
Held every 12th Boishakh at Lal Dighi Maidan, the event features 50 top wrestlers from across the country, known as Mollas, competing in elimination rounds. The current champion, Didar Boli, has won 12 consecutive titles.
Beyond wrestling, the tournament is accompanied by Chattogram’s largest Boishakhi fair, boosting the local economy through the sale of crafts, toys, and traditional goods.
While other Boli tournaments like DC Shaheber Boli and Sarkarer Boli exist in the region, Jobbarer Boli Khela remains the most celebrated, symbolising both heritage and resilience. Greater support is needed to preserve this vibrant part of Bangladesh’s cultural legacy.
