"My day job consists of writing code and working with databases and I have the luxury of working occasionally in the Islands, usually Kauai. My outlet for writing code and dealing with the cubicle life is my photography. Kauai is by far my favorite place I have ever traveled to for both work and pleasure and every time I go there I am amazed at the wonderful sunrises and sunsets. I normally stay near Wailua and get to wake up to sunrises (like the one seen in this photo) most every day. Any free time here is usually spent scouring the beaches for that photo I haven't taken or trying to better a previous one.
I took this particular photograph after the sunrise and was tying to go for something different. By different I mean I got stuck in a rut of always using my Big Stopper and going for the smokey water look and wanted to branch out. The sunrises here offer amazing colors and I was experimenting with my Lee Coral Grad on the bottom and my Daryl Benson Reverse GND on the horizon. What this combo brought out was some very nice tones in the lower portion of the image while maintaining the bright clouds at the top portion."- Ian Ludwig
