"It was a fairly warm day when I decided to shoot something I've had in mind with Eric as my model in Rijeka (Croatia). The main idea was to create an image with the model against sharp tall rocks, but as no such rocks were found (all were covered with an ugly protective net), I realized I could also change the concept and shoot him against the sea.
We had some problems with the weather because the sky was covered in thin clouds so sometimes the sun would peek through and, obviously, completely change the whole image.
I wanted a washed-out, dismal look of it, so we had to wait for clouds to cover the sun again whenever we wanted to make more shots.
In the end there were a few different poses I liked, but this one struck me because in me it evokes emptiness, longing, nostalgia and a number of other emotions.
The final photo itself is a composite of other photos using the Brenizer method. I wanted to have the vastness of the rocks and the sky, but also focus on the model (disappearing). In post-production I stitched the images together, did some colour correction and made the model fade away by lowering the opacity." -Isabella Bubola
