Lesa Van Rooyen sent in this beautiful image captured in Lesotho, a small country in Africa bordered on all sides by South Africa.
"It is a picture I took in the Lesotho mountains of a cattle herder. The image was taken just before winter, when they herd all of the cattle down from the mountains to the villages to protect them from the heavy snow. This is a 'drive-by' shot and you can see from the expression in his face he was quite surprised by my interest in him. I took it with my Nikon D300s, 18-105mm nikon lens, f/7 on 18mm at 1/1000, ISO 200.
I travel all through Africa, so I get to photograph all the weird and wonderful things the African continent has to offer. I thought to send this as a transportation picture as donkeys are the nr.1 mode of transport in rural Southern Africa.
The picture was processed as a black and white image, using a lot of contrast. I wanted to show the harshness of the way they live."
