To kick off our POTD contest for the month of April, I'm happy to present this awesome portrait of a fascinating man taken by Slavic Stepanov. When asked how and why he created the image, Slavic responded:
"So, I was driving down the road when I saw this Native American man walking down the road, I passed him by but thought to myself just how cool and unique he looked. So, I proceeded to do a U-turn and pull over next to him. I introduced myself and told him that I am an aspiring photographer and that I'd love to photograph him in the woods (how creepy, I know :)) and pay him a small fee. Ray Garcia, a member of the Chippewa tribe gladly agreed. I picked him up then and there and we drove up into the boonies (15 minutes away) with my nephew/assistant. I took a set of awesome portraits with my D90, Sigma 17-50 2.8, and 2 SB-600's with Umbrellas. The image I've attached is my favorite of the ten or so keepers. I paid Ray $100 for his time and we soon became good friends, I still give him a ride every time I see him hitch-hiking."
Beautiful shot, Slavic! Thanks so much for sending in your work and best of luck. I love everything about this shot, including the story behind it.
Great story man
