Lee Cookson on Fstoppers

A multi-disciplinary artist utilizing photography to explore the intersection of human and natural spaces. Shooting primarily with 35mm and medium format cameras on black and white film, I maintain a start-to-finish darkroom practice that utilizes custom-made developers for both film and prints. My work takes a conceptual approach to nature and street photography by re-contextualizing one within the other, where natural subjects are found awkwardly confined to urban settings, or the reverse, in which fumbled human attempts at blending objects/structures into natural environments are highlighted.

For my day job, I work as a Production Specialist at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, a non-degree granting post-secondary institution offering arts and leadership programs in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.
