Born in Peru, and now living in the US, I have had the good fortune to travel extensively around the world. An economist by training and a passionate photographer, I have traveled to Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America. I have more than 30 years of experience as a photographer, including years of teaching photography to aspiring photographers. My work has been exhibited in various collective and solo exhibitions in the Washington DC area and has been published in numerous international development reports. Most recently, my photographs have been published in "Top Mining Companies in Peru", edited by Jonathan Cavanagh, and in "Dialogue Through Time", published to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the International Photography Society, curated by Manuel Morquecho.

My photography is influenced by careful observation of the work of photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, André Kertesz, Martin Chambi, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon and Ansel Adams. Key principles that guide my photography include the mid-tone gray principle; the link between the histogram and Ansel Adams' Zone system; and Cartier-Bresson's Fibonacci studies. I strongly recommend observing the paintings of Vermeer to learn key principles of lightning for portraiture. When I arrive to a scene I always remember a basic lesson I learned many years ago: walk around your subject.
