Fine-art photography sounds a little pretentious, but my photography for no other better description falls into the art category. The great debate over whether photography is a true art form goes back well over a hundred years. I certainly won't resolve that issue, but I definitely enjoy the challenge of crafting an image using the camera, computer, and thought; rather than just simply shooting a documentary picture.

My home in Western Colorado sits nestled between the Rocky Mountains to the east and canyons of Utah to the west, affording stunning landscapes in either direction. Although it's the little things that generally capture my attention... a leaf, a flower, a rusted chunk of machinery. I'm especially fond of history and enjoy combining some of my contemporary photos with Victorian era public domain portraits. My photographic style has changed many times over the years, and I feel every day is a new adventure.

Printing is as important to me as the capture and design of an image. Somehow a photo doesn't seem complete until committed to paper. It's there that I can really appreciate the rich detail and textures of my photographs. Inkjet printers can be a great source of frustration with clogged print heads, do-overs, and the maintenance challenges of living in a rural area, but holding a print in hand that I've made myself is one of the most rewarding things in my life. And I believe that is what art is all about.
