I watch a lot of time-lapse videos on YouTube and Vimeo but this one really stands out. Take a few minutes to watch this amazing video and get lost in the beauty of Norway.
Expertly created by Casper Rolsted over the course of five weeks in 2017, this stunning time-lapse video showcases the majesty of Norway. Rolsted takes the viewer from snowy mountains to stunning blue fjords, creating interest throughout with varied compositions, angles, and slider movements. Rolsted used a Sony Alpha a6300 mirrorless camera, edelkrone SlidePlus Medium camera slider, and several Samyang lenses to shoot his footage.
I was particularly struck by Rolsted's use of audio throughout the video. The soundtrack complements the scenery well and the ambient sound effects stand out, conveying a sense of place. There are a couple of quick cuts and zoom transitions that struck the wrong chord and took me out of the experience, and the video is a bit too long, clocking in at six minutes.
I will be visiting Norway this summer for two weeks and have been combing through images and videos online like this one for inspiration and ideas. Though technically it's a family vacation, I definitely plan on spending time shooting still images and capturing time-lapses and aerial footage. The only question is if there will be room for my slider among the diapers and baby bottles.
