Born in the UK, emigrated at 25yo to Australia. Professional engineer in the field of pipelines, piping, pumps and hydraulic analysis. Called upon for forensic examinations, failure analysis and expert witness testimony.

Started photography in black and white film & manual focussing lenses back in 1960. Had a break of 25 years whilst bringing up family. Use photography in my business. As this has been affected by COVID-19; decided to start earning a living from photography. Steep learning curve in digital equipment and post production but being literate in computers just time and motion. Love the professional gear built like a tank.

Composition skills from when using expensive film are little changed. Light hasn’t changed. These 2 aspects more important than equipment and software. Capture image in the camera expose in the computer is my mantra.

Focussing on product and evidence photography . No weddings or portraits for me. Doing some landscape and night photography for experience and fun.

Buying 2nd hand quality gear and resell what is not used. Cameras are D3, D700, D600, D7200 & D750. All bought for a total less than one mirrorless camera. Lenses are primes and zooms, too many to list. All stored in a humidity controlled cabinet to preserve the investment. Using Photoscape X for post production. Have Luminar AI on order. Computers are number crunching beasts with high res monitors.
