I got started shooting for The Picture People in 2006 to pay my way through college. I absolutely fell in love with photography -- specifically portraiture. I gained a lot of experience while I was there with posing and getting used to using a Canon 20D. I would have loved more experience with different lighting techniques at the time, but The Picture People had set lighting that you were not allowed or able to move: one key light and secondary up top. On the side at this time, I also second-shot a couple weddings, which terrified me at this point in my hobby.
After a year of working for The Picture People, I left for better pay, the use of a 30D, and more creative license to work for a locally-owned studio called Click in New Albany, Indiana. While here, I had so much fun trying as many things as I possibly could in order to stretch my creativity. On our down-time, which often occurred in January-March, we were allowed to photograph and practice with different lighting, modifiers, etc. I will always look back at this point in my life as one of the reasons why my love for photography and the desire to improve were solidified. I am very thankful for that.
I went off on my own in 2011, while also attending seminary for Christian Ministry studies. I've been shooting on my own all this time, but after I left Click, it seemed like I started getting more sessions and weddings than I ever had. I try to improve every day, and I hope to network with you!
