The Edge of Flight

Long before sunrise touches the Vermilion cliffs, I’m already waiting.
The air over Marble Canyon is cool, the kind that hums against skin before heat rises from the desert floor. Across the span of Navajo Bridge, shapes begin to stir—massive silhouettes unfurling against the purple dawn. Their wings catch the first light, revealing the unmistakable presence of the California Condor.

For more than a decade, these birds have been my companions, my obsession, and my mirror to what survival really means. I’ve watched them fight for thermals, for dominance, for each other. I’ve photographed them in silence and in storm, sometimes for hours without taking a single frame, waiting for that moment when instinct and light align. What began as curiosity has evolved into one of the most detailed independent archives of the species in existence—thousands of photographs and hours of footage recorded along the Vermilion Cliffs, Lees Ferry, and the Marble Canyon corridor.
My collection now spans more than 80 individually identified California Condors, each tagged and documented through behavior, pairing, or pattern. Every image is logged through Lightroom with time, weather, GPS, and behavioral notes. Ma
