Elia Locardi:

In 2009, when I started on my path to become a travel photographer, I knew that I wanted to give my work a unique style to help it stand out from the rest. Very early on, I began to experiment with HDR photography, and at the time — with the limitations of the dynamic range captured by camera sensors — it was the easiest way to combine multiple exposures together. However, I quickly began to dislike the HDR look in my photography and began to experiment with manual blending techniques.

The moment I began to step away from automated blending software and began to embrace manual blending techniques is when my style really started to develop itself into what it is today. I was able to develop a very easy to understand, non-linear way to work with RAW files to limit complexity and maximize image potential. Combining my post-processing workflow with in-the-field techniques has allowed me to create a unique style of photography that over the years has become very recognizable.

When Lee Morris and Patrick Hall from Fstoppers approached me about creating a Video Tutorial about Landscape Photography, I was very excited about the potential to share my techniques with the world. With nine months of shooting, editing, and post-processing, Photographing The World - Landscape Photography and Post-processing is the most in-depth video tutorial for landscape photography ever created. It combines 12+ hours of content with 15 different lessons that get progressively more difficult as they go, teaching my entire photography workflow from on-location techniques all the way through post-processing in the studio. This isn’t just a photography tutorial, it’s an entire lesson plan.

This is the first time any section of this tutorial has been released for free and the first time we have offered a discount. I’m excited to release the first lesson from Photographing The World absolutely free here first to ViewBug users!

In this lesson, I give an introduction to basic camera settings for landscape photography and the appropriate settings for shooting modes, ISO, f-stop, shutter speed, and exposure bracketing. We study how changing positions can dramatically influence the composition of a scene. We also examine different vantage points in this location and how to choose an establishing shot. As we shoot throughout the day, we start to understand how the quality of light can completely change the scene.

After shooting on location, I give an introduction to post-processing: Adobe Lightroom® and Photoshop® software basics. I cover my basic RAW processing workflow and how to correctly balance the light in a scene. I also introduce how to use various Photoshop® plugins by Google Nik Collection to get more contrast, color, and details into your photos.

This lesson is only a small sample of the wide variety of shooting tips and editing techniques that you can learn from Photographing The World: Landscape Photography and Post-Processing. We are offering We are offering a one-time discount to Viewbug readers that will only be available on this page (so write it down right now)!
