Advice for Landing Your First Paid Photoshoot

There are few things in your journey as a budding photography as exciting as landing your first paid shoot, but how to actually go about making that happen is anything but clear. If you are ready to start getting paid for your work but struggling to find a client, check out this helpful video tutorial that offers some actionable advice on how to land your first photoshoot.

Coming to you from Samuel Elkins, this awesome video tutorial discusses some practical tips for landing your first paid photoshoot. Of them, one that I think frequently gets overlooked is networking. Photography can be a business heavily driven by word of mouth and simple opportunity. I landed my first gig not because I was advertising or actively looking clients at that moment, but because I was at a music event where someone mentioned they needed headshots. People will often hire the first photographer they find whose work and approach they trust and whose price matches their budget; after all, we live in an age of convenience. This means the more you can simply be present at events and places where you chat with people and nonchalantly present your services, the better a chance you have at landing those clients. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Elkins.
