Japanese Band Androp Uses 250 Canon Cameras and Flashes For Their Stage Show

So your band is about to go on tour and the obvious question is “what are we going to use for our backdrop?” Most bands would normally use a projector, an LED panel, or just some plain old stage lights. What the Japan based band Androp decided to do was much more interesting. Using 250 Canon cameras equipped with external flashes, the band wired everything together and programmed them with Arduino open source software to display different patterns of light and text. You really have to watch the whole thing to even grasp how cool this turned out. Check out the behind the scenes video below and then watch the second video below to see how it all came together.

              Behind the Scenes:

              Final Production:

its great. For the ppl who maybe didnt even watch it closely:

                1. not all the camera used were D60:
if u look closer in beginning there are some more crappy old camera used to setup. just they only take closeup on the body with better condition. some look like really old film camera.

                2. some of the pictures took by those camera are actually used in the final film:
right when i was thinking it is quite a waste if only using them as flash unit, it showed up in the video some shoot took by the camera wall. It is quite interesting!

We used to do this with simple lightbulbs… check this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oW88kdzIks4
a lot simpler I think, and probably cheaper (unless they had Canon on their side). that’s why we had 1200 bulbs, dimmable in groups of 8. Just hook them up to a lighting table and dimmers…

Now that I’ve read all the remarks here, I must admit that I agree with those who think this was a great idea ! It got us all talking about it, right ?! That’s what this video was made for.
And the fact that opinions are so strong just proves this point even more.
This is a great promo, for Canon as well as the makers of this film and the band (and their record company). Thumbs up !

Finally!  I’ve been reading through all this waiting for someone to comment on the fact that it’s all marketing.  Right from the beginning with the pan out from the canon logo.  You knew right away it was a gimmick.
BUT it was still cool as hell to watch.  They could have used a lot of other methods to create their light wall, but with canon backing them up, this was probably cheaper for them.

I want to see more of the stills from the video shoot. i think those would be more interesting to look at, at least for a lil bit. haha.
