Fstoppers Is Coming To Europe For A Road Trip And Photokina

This Thursday September 4th Patrick and I are flying into Amsterdam for a 20 day tour of Europe. At this point we don't have anything set in stone but our basic goal is to go from Amsterdam to Berlin to Prague to Austria to northern Italy to Switzerland, and then to Cologne Germany for the end of Photokina. If you live in any of these countries/cities we would love to meet up.

At this point we have 2 nights reserved in a hotel in Amsterdam. After that, we are open to any ideas. If you have a suggestion of a place we should visit we are all ears. If you have a place for us to stay, we might even crash on your sofa. We would much rather hang out with the locals than aimlessly wonder around these cities. If you live in Europe and want to give us advice or meet up, please join THIS FACEBOOK GROUP

Damn, you guys are going to Austria and I'm not there anymore :( Any chance to tempt you guys to Paris?

I could offer a couple of sofa, food and a guide through Milan :) Do you already know when you will be here?

Hey Lee and Patrick,
Stop by Vienna! It is a must see and you got lots of great photo opportunities here. If you want to you can crush at my place. It is not big but I already hosted a lot of people in the past. (My Couchsurfing profile: https://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=G46YWTP )
My FB group request is pending. So write me a message once accepted.
All the best and have a safe trip,
Helmut

Hey, it's amazing! I live in Czech Republic and can't wait to meet you in Prague! There is so much historical buildings and places - you have to stay there at least for 2 days (even week wouldn't be enough but I respect your timeline). And when you plan to come to Prague?

Well, looks like a nice trip! After travelling all over Europe I'd suggest you to take the car even though fuel is expensive. Did you check the trains? With a regular ticket for 2 people it is usually more expensive than a car. Plus you don't have the mobility.
If you have time include Budapest or Zagreb, not the most common destinations but definitely some of the most beautiful cities in Europe. I'd rather skip some other in between instead. Oh and if you rent a car, bring it back where you got it, otherwise it'll cost a fortune.

Hi guys! I'm sure your trip schedule is pretty tight, but if you'd like to visit one of the 100 most beautiful towns in Italy (Tellaro), just 2h away from Milan along the Ligurian coast, we have enough space to give you a bed in our studio. Think about it. It would be a honour of us. Ciao

Hello and Good Morning from Germany.

I know, it’s a bit … fastforward, but here
are my ideas for your trip to Europe:

1. Amsterdam: Make sure, that you are
located in the area „Jordaan“ close to
the „Prinsengracht“. That’s a very lovely
place (young people, cafés, music…)
2. I would suggest, that you skip Hannover
an travel to Hamburg instead. If you are
interested, go to „The Marmalade“. My
brother works there. They are the creators
of the „Spike“ https://vimeo.com/33408157
(also, Hannover is dead boring… while
Hamburg is „da shit“… ;-)
3. Berlin is ok. Go to the „Berghain“.
http://berghain.de.
The Doorman is a well-known photographer
http://marquardtfotografie.com.
It’s also one of the best clubs in the world.
4. Prague is ok. Make sure, that you have
your „f1,4s“ with you… Prague in Twilight
is absolute awesome.
It’s nickname is „The golden City“
5. Vienna is ok. Off-Topic: Go to the bakery
„Demel“. Imho it’s simply the best in the world.
And it looks like time stood still for over two
centuries. Buy a „Sacher Torte“ only at
Demel… http://www.demel.at
6. I would skip Venice… and go to Trieste
instead. (It’s not far from Venice, but WAY
less tourists and cheap tourist attractions).
7. Milan is ok. If possible, go to the Stadion
„Guiseppe-Meazza“ and see AC or Inter play.
8. Zürich is ok, but I would go to Geneva.
(btw.: Switzerland is extremly expensive!)
As an alternative: Skip Milan, and go to
„Bolzano“ or „Merano“ in northern Italy.
In Merano, they have „Castle Trauttmannsdorf“
It’s a botanical garden. Like paradise, but
better ;-) http://www.trauttmansdorff.it
Then via Innsbruck, Ulm and Frankfurt to Cologne)
9. If you come through the Elsaß (Alsace),
check out the restaurants. You can not get
any better food on this planet…
10. You better visit Frankfurt… ;-) Even the
New York Times ranked it on No. 12 of the
„NYT: 52 Places to Go in 2014“
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/01/10/travel/2014-places-to-go.h...
That’s my hometown… ;-)
And if you go by train, you can hardly avoid
it...

All the best for you… thank you for your
work. FStoppers is always my preferred
morning lecture!
Yours Olaf

P.S. You can contact me anytime for
further informations.

Saturday the 6th, if you guys grew bored of old buildings, crowded coffeeshops (wink, nudge) and bicycles all over the place, check out Valtifest (http://www.valtifest.nl/home). Just a short ferry ride from down town Amsterdam in the hippest part of our capitol. On an old warf, just around the head quarters of MTV Europe you are bound to have a great stay.

If you like to shoot some industrial culture and nice illumination I would highly recommend the landscape park in Duisburg (Germany). It's not that far away from Cologne (40miles) or Amsterdam (120 miles) and perfect for a visit at the late evening. You can enter it for free. But it's huge so you could easily spend a whole day in there.

You can also find tons of pictures on Flickr

If you still search some places to stay AirBnB or CouchSurfing might be worth a look as well. You'll find many private hosts in Germany.

You won't come to Mainhattan (Frankfurt/Main)???
If so - send me a message. You can stay a night or two as well.
Cheers

Have a beer with me in Prague, i´ll show u around...

Great timing! I'll be in Desenzano del Garda visiting family next. Its just west of Verona. Beautiful region. Should check it out.

Hey Guys!! I am game for drinks in Milan!! let me know the dates that you will be in town. BTW there is a train to Lake Como round trip for around 12 bucks. You do not need to rent a car to get there.

you have to come to berne, Switzerland. rated one of the most underestimated capitals in the world. I would be happy to show you around or provide my guestroom/sofa to you guys to crash.

Just returned from a road rally through Europe. Here's the video highlight. http://vimeo.com/105600724

Really can't go wrong no matter where you go - beautiful places to photograph everywhere.
