The commemoration of Kapak Raymi (Festival of the Children), celebrated by the Saraguro people of Southern Ecuador.
During the festival children are initiated into adulthood by the transference of spiritual values and traditions through symbolic rituals. In corroboration with this stage of growth, the flowering of the first seeds from the maize planting season are also celebrated.
The bonds of community, solidarity, reciprocity between families, communities and individuals are strengthened through the sharing of food, music and dance.
