Of all the magical experiences I have ever photographed, spending nights under the Northern Lights are still my favorite memories. I have had some incredible moments under some incredible displays, and I also love to watch other photographers experience the beauty of the Northern Lights too. In this video by Andrew Allan, he travels to Arctic Norway and has an unforgettable night.
Andrew Allan is a fantastic astrophotographer based in Scotland and often films and photographs the Northern Lights from near his home during large displays. In some of Allan's videos, he travels further abroad to Iceland, and in this video, he visits the fjords near Tromsø, Norway and is treated to an epic night!
Within an hour of landing, Allan was already photographing the Northern Lights after driving 40 minutes out of the city to find clear skies. Gradually, as the night progressed, the activity continued to build, and the intensity was growing nicely. Allan received some great tips from local photographers who were also coming out to witness this incredible night.
Tromsø is under the Auroral Oval, which means you will have great opportunities of seeing the Aurorae at those latitudes, providing the weather is clear.
I highly recommend watching the video and enjoying this amazing night that Allan got to experience.
