It's important in photography to stay creative, and this simple DIY lens hack from Pye Jirsa does just that. Learn how to create a "flare ring" of your own in just a few minutes.
In this video, Pye Jirsa from SLR Lounge, shows us that by wrapping up a necklace and lighting it just right, you can create a glowing "flare ring" around your portrait subjects to make them really stand out. In just a couple of minutes, you can go from dull, standard portrait photographs to bokeh-booming images. And the great thing is you don't have to spend a dime. The materials are probably already there at home, staring you in the face.
The trick to this shot is in the lighting. You must face your model away from the sun, so you're shooting towards it, to create a glowing flare like Pye captures. But if you don't have sunlight when you want to shoot, no problem. Grab your flashgun and set it up behind your model for consistent backlighting.
