A Star Wars Dogfight Recreated Using Drones

The guys over at Cooridor-Digital just released this sweet video using a combination of drones and visual effects to create an awesome dogfight between an X-wing Starfighter and several TIE Fighters. Drones + Star Wars = Nerd Love. The film kicks off with some playful stop-motion action between some Stormtrooper action figures and toy models of the spaceships before switching into first-person perspective for most of of the flying scenes. Instead of just using a digital mockup of a fighter cockpit, the team 3D printed physical versions of the cockpits to be photographed and overlaid the graphics in post to really nail the Star Wars vibe of the video.

The guys also created a behind the scenes video detailing their entire process, from concept to shooting to practical and digital effects and so on.

My only nerd complaint is the absolute faux pas of using Probe Droid sound effects for the TIE Fighters. Shame!

This is awesome!

I was moderately impressed by the video, but then I watched the behind the scenes (link at end of video). It's a total geek-boy nerd-fest, but after I saw how they did all the effects without any super-expensive fx equipment, I was REALLY impressed.

Right? At its core it's just a fun video, but the effort they put into it made me appreciate it way more than I would have otherwise.

These guys are so creative, you should also check out their Superman Gopro video which in my opinion is even better https://youtu.be/H0Ib9SwC7EI

I think I would have just left it in the woods.

That rig is likely around $1,000 including the gopro, PLUS the footage.
