If you hop on Instagram or the like and click on a landscape photography hashtag, you are likely to see mostly scenes from famous locations, often in distant and remote regions. And while there is a reason so many people shoot at those locations, they are not the only worthwhile places. In fact, as this great video shows, you can create fantastic photos even from your own bedroom.
Coming to you from aows, this interesting video shows how much you can photograph simply from the confines of a bedroom. I have always been a big advocate of local photography. Anyone can take a picture of the Grand Canyon, but you are an expert in your local area, and you might be able to create images people who live nearby would feel a strong connection to. It is also much cheaper than a trip to some faraway location. Most importantly, though, working with what you have around you will train you to be a more thoughtful and creative photographer, as you do not have the benefit of ready-made scenes, forcing you to explore, experiment, and create more innovative and less obvious images. Didn't Brett Weston say: "Anything more than 500 yards from the car just isn't photogenic." Creating images right outside your door is nothing new. One only has to look and Monet's painting of Giverny or Paul Strand's photos of the gardens of Orgeval to see that.
