Important Advice for Photographers in All Genres

In the age of the internet and social media, it is easier than ever to compare yourself to hundreds of other creatives with just the swipe of your thumb, and that can be a really dangerous thing. This great video offers some helpful advice for becoming both a successful and satisfied photographer.

Coming to you from The Monochrome Memoirs, this excellent video discusses the importance of being true to yourself instead of simply trying to be different for the sake of being different. Probably the most important lesson I have learned as a musician is that even the most untrained listener can quickly pick up on when you are not being true to yourself as a creative, and once they catch that, you have lost them as a listener. The same applies to photography and filmmaking. On top of it being really unsatisfying to censor your creative voice, if you are trying to imitate someone else or simply trying to be different for the sake of being different, there is probably someone else out there who does it better because for them, it is their natural voice. It's better to be true to yourself and do it as well as you can. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
