I had a bit of a standoff with this guy, with my lens peeking over the grass as I laid on my belly, waiting for him to "up-periscope". After a few minutes of slither-slither-peek...slither-slither-peek, he angled himself to the sun in the way I was hoping for, and I got this shot.

I did two edits of the raw file for this garter snake. One of the edits to make the grass even softer than it was (shot at f/3.5), and another edit to sharpen and clarify the snake, then I combined the two.
