Congratulations to the winners!
That's a nice one, even without the God rays that would be a nice picture. Where is it ? I also like that you didn't photoshop out the plastic bag in the foreground, it's as is. Would like to see this at different times of the day.
Hi, Nick! Thank you for your feedback. It's in Romania, Transylvania, about 10 miles from Dracula's Castle :-)
The "plastic bag" in the foreground is actually a big metal container... and yeah, I thought about removing it too, but eventually decided not to. The photo was taken during an intense thunderstorm and even though I was extremely wet and cold, it was totally worth it.
Thanks. I can't believe the 2.28 rating. Maybe they don't like the HDR look (is it even HDR ? I'm not expert) or the God rays, I don't know... But it seems harsh.
Definitely not HDR, but I agree that the post-processing might not be to everyone's liking, so I can't say that the rating bothers me too much. :-)
Plenty of really good elements in here. One thing I would change is to tone down the colours to something more natural-looking. The photo looks overcooked! Other than that, good light, decent composition. I feel like there's too much sky in here also but I'm also not exactly sure how you could have done differently.
Thank you for the feedback, Jerome. I agree with everything you said. And yes, looking today at it, I agree that I overprocessed it a bit. Under normal conditions I would have used a tripod and created a composite image, but 1.5 years ago, when I took this image, I was using a Nikon D5100 (which is not weather sealed) and being in the middle of a thunderstorm, I had to be very quick in order to protect the camera. Also, I had forgotten the camera on JPEG only mode from a previous shoot, so I did not have a RAW file, I only had the JPEG to work with :-(
Had a lot against you with the storm, but the end result is pretty magical.
Thank you!
