After spending a while taking pictures and looking for good shots of the soloist (what interested me the most of this concert) I already had a few that satisfied me. I decided that I could afford to loose a few minutes and make a long exposure shot where the hands of the pianist appeared at full speed and blurred, and also the director in a dynamic posture. As I know the room well, I placed myself on the left side, and I chose a framing in which I could capture the elements I wanted. I took care of the exposition so as not to burn the highlights (I was especially worried about the director's jacket and her shoulders) and I didn't mind having some deep blacks. I rested the telephoto lens on the back of a chair to stabilize the shot especially slow for the focal chosen and waited for my moment. I knew that in the presto there were passages that would offer me the movements of hands that I wanted and that in addition the director would surely look to the soloist to look for the synchrony in some moments.
The scene gave me several interesting moments that I photographed but I was lucky and I was able to do the one you are seeing. It was made in manual mode with a Canon 6D and a Sigma 70-200 at 1/20 seconds f/2.8 focal 97mm and ISO 100.
