Let me show you my axe - I was waiting and waiting for a foggy night and the first one was on Christmas Eve. So after tucking the kids into bed and checking for Santa (you know the deal) it was outside with a tripod and a speedlite and my father-in-laws best axe. Slight edit to remove a stepladder from behind me but other than that, not too much editing...

Go for it Catherine, much more fun than a fog machine. Actually wood is our only source of heating, you would think I'd have tired of axes by now but I own three. None quite as pretty as this one though...
Totally agree with you, I as well prefer props that are already there and not artificially made or at least more environment-friendly. This shoot is such a great idea and I might take it as an inspiration. 😊
