From October to December every year, Australian Rainbow Bee-eaters return to a stretch of riverbank near my house to nest and breed in the city of Brisbane. During that time it's usually a frenzy of feeding and digging.

This image shows the final stage in the Bee-eaters feeding process. After catching their hapless victim, it gets a quick bashing against a tree branch to dispatch it. Next comes the toss and swallow as shown here.

I spend every year photographing these fascinating little creatures and this is the first time I have been able to capture this.
