I captured this image in the fall of 2017 at sunset from Yosemite Point; the sun ducked under the clouds and illuminated the face of Half Dome and a small cloud hovering above it. It was illuminated for about 5 minutes and then gone. I love the contrast the illumination creates between the subject and background, as well as the contrast between the gravity of the mountain and the ethereal nature of the cloud hovering above. Although this is a very frequently photographed landscape, I feel this image successfully captures the peak in a way I personally haven't seen before.
Due to the fact that the light in this instance was disappearing rapidly, I had no time to grab my tripod from my gear bag and instead opted to run 500 yards to the edge of the overlook and try to get the image handheld. I shot this on a Canon 5DMIV with a 24-70 2.8. The settings were ISO100 1/100, f11. Post processing was done in Lightroom.
Love the dramatic Dome with the contrast of the ominous cloud directly above.
