This image was taken last winter in the middle of the night somewhere in rural Bavaria. I was going to take pictures of the full moon, but unfortunately the fog had different ideas. While I was cruising along this Bavarian road I came across an old church and instantly knew that this was my shot. The full moon dimly lit the scenery through the fog, basically a giant soft box emitting grey and very cold light.
So I set up my tripod with my D810 and the Tamron 2,8 24-70 G2, which struggled to find focus in the dark. While I was trying to manually focus, it was indeed scary silent, not a single car disturbing the night, only tiny lights from a house near the forest. It was the kind of night mood where you'd expect the Grim Reaper to appear any moment behind the church.
It took a 20 seconds exposure at f2.8 and a few attempts to get the focus right, and I got my shot.
