I was super excited to see a new YouTube channel launch recently that is not only dedicated to film photography, but is produced just down the road from me on Australia’s stunning Gold Coast. I was even more excited when I saw there was a video about shooting Polaroids.
Lucy Lumen's Analog Adventures has racked up over 1000 subscribers in just two months thanks to a steady stream of new content. Videos drop a couple of times a week and feature varied topics such as thrift shop finds, shooting with the Sunny 16 rule, thoughts on photography, and the ubiquitous camera and film stock reviews.
Lumen has a natural charm and charisma that shines through every video. I particularly enjoy the videos where she hits the streets of the Gold Coast and shares her photographic process with viewers.
This Polaroid SX-70 vs 600 Instant Color Film Comparison is a particular favorite of mine - anyone who listens to my podcast Matt Loves Cameras or follows me on Instagram will know how much I love Polaroid.
Lumen walks around the hilly beachside streets of Burleigh shooting with both a Polaroid OneStep and Polaroid One 600 Pro as she tries both films out. I've never had much luck with my rigid body OneStep so I usually shoot with my SX-70. Lucy had no dramas though, shooting image after image with great results. Which film did she like best? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
Love my Polaroids (SX70 and 690) but the film is way too expensive to shoot as much as I would like. I tend to do friends and family plus the occasional still life.
I hear you, though if you look at historic Polaroid prices, it's about the same prices as it's always been.
Seriously?
Seriously what?
Present such a video. One can't be excited about everything. This one, well, not at all.
Kudos to her for making Goldie look good!
The Goldie always looks good ;)
Have you BEEN to Surfers?!
I'm mostly joking. I do like Kira. And some of the less touristy beaches.
It's more than a camera, it's almost alive! It's only 19 dollars and 95...
