I've updated the post. Sorry for the confusion :)
Look at that, it's about the process it used to be before Canon raised it.
You gotta love B&H. I received mine yesterday (paid $2199) and they credited me the price difference with no hassle. They're hard to beat. That 200 bucks can go along way.
This is so true I called B&H for the price adjustment and they refunded the $200 price difference. This is also true for Discover card holders. If you used Discover card then you can call the price protection department and they will do the price adjustments for you.
Probably returned stock. Stores like B&H are notorious for reselling returned stock as new. Still, if it works OK and is optically sound, worth it. Always a gamble, however.
While it would bother me if it was returned stocked, how does that change anything really? If you find something to be wrong, just return it. If something happens inside of warranty and it was sold as new, you are covered as well. Chances are other retailers will offer this same deal and at that point it's def not returned stock if they match the price.
Well that's saving grace, you do have the option to return it. It is also under it's full warranty if you don't. So it is "like new". But it increases the odds of getting a faulty returned item resold as new. It's a gamble. If you win, great, if not, then you need to return it. Depending on where you live, returning it can cost YOU. I'm right across Manhattan so I can just walk right into the returns dept. Others won't have that luxury.
I've been "gambling" with the likes of B&H, Adorama, J&R, and countless other NYC camera shop that have gone under or merged like Cambridge Camera, 47th St Photo, Olden Camera, etc. for around 40 years. I've learned how to play their game, and I have the luxury of walking right into the stores and returning an item if need be.
I think however most people expect a new item when they buy something, um, NEW. That becomes more difficult in this day and age of Amazons and such. It's especially tricky with optics however. So, caveat emptor!
Its still equivalent to $2980 in the UK though!
I'd save my money for the Sigma 24-70 f2
Literally bought this lens from Adorama before this was posted. It showed as shipped before i could cancel. Contacted customer service hopefully they credit the difference.
On Thursday I bought a Canon 6D with the 24-105mm f4 for $1,999!
