How Good Is the Sony a7S III?

The Sony a7S III was one of the most eagerly anticipated cameras of the last few years, and now that it is finally here, you might be wondering how it actually performs in the real world. This great video review takes a look at the new camera and what you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Brandon Li, this comprehensive video review takes a look at the new Sony a7S III. With its focus primarily on video, the a7S III comes with a bevy of awesome features, including:

  • 4K 120p video with 10-Bit 4:2:2 internal recording
  • 16-bit raw output
  • HLG for direct HDR production

  • Expanded ISO range of 40-409,600
  • 10 fps continuous burst rate
  • 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE sensor-shift image stabilization with up to 5.5 stops of compensation
  • 9.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder

I hear the highlight roll-off sucks.

I hear that various pros who have reviewed it have bought one or two after reviewing it (eg. Philip Bloom, who is not a Sony fanboy, and his 1+ hour in depth review).

Show an example of the HL roll-off and how it compares it it's competitors, since, I'm sure, you are very objective in this.

Poor HL roll-off in 10bit files and LOG? How about in the 16bit files?

Perhaps. Let's see the proof.

Who's Philip Bloom? Jk, i know who he is. I got in an argument with him, and absolutely nothing he said i disagreed with cause i already knew, but he would never answer my questions and proceeded to call me stupid and a waste of his time. For all intents and purposes, i won that argument, although he'll never admit to it.

That's a good question. It has to be better in 16bit because of the increased color variation.

Reviews are IMHO, just a front page. I think the best way to know for sure if a camera performs as one expected is by renting it out and use it.

Hey Martin, where did you hear this? This will influence any purchase decision but I can't find any commentary about poor highlight roll-off. Just a link would be fine, thanks!

The guys in the comments above are saying, Philip Bloom. But I heard it through the grapevine.
