Panasonic Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4 and 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. L-Mount Lenses Announced

Panasonic Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4 and 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. L-Mount Lenses Announced

Today, Panasonic has announced two valuable new additions to their growing S PRO line of L-mount lenses.

Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4

The new S PRO 16-35mm f/4 is an L-mount lens that Panasonic claims will feature high resolution image corners with minimal vignetting and suppressed double-line bokeh. To achieve this, the 16-35mm f/4 uses 12 elements in 9 groups, 3 of which are aspherical, as well as an extra-low dispersion element and ultra-high refractive index element. Panasonic stated that the optimum alignment of this lens will achieve high MTF performance for its compact class.

The lens uses a double magnet linear autofocus motor and a clutch mechanism which allows for instant manual focus switching. For video, the 16-35mm is promising suppressed focus breathing.

Other specs include a dust and splash resistant design that can withstand up to -10 degrees Fahrenheit. The 16-35mm will take 77mm filters and sports a 9-bladed circular aperture.

The Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4 is priced at $1,497.99 and will start shipping in January 2020.

Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S.

Following up on the Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S., this new S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. was designed for “professional field shooting.” It sports 22 elements in 17 groups with 2 ultra extra-low dispersion elements, 3 extra-low dispersion elements, and one aspherical element.

With 2x Teleconverter attached.

The Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) of the lens can work with the Lumix S1RS1, and S1H cameras’ in-body stabilization to enable a 5-axis Dual I.S. 2 for 7-stops of compensation.

The S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 is compatible with the 1.4x and 2x Lumix S L-mount teleconverters for maximum 280mm and 400mm focal lengths at the cost of 1 and 2 stops of light.

As with the 70-200mm f/4, the 70-200mm f/2.8 uses a double focus system with linear and stepping motors as well as a clutch mechanism for instant manual focus switching, and should have suppressed focus breathing for video recording.

Other specs include a dust and splash resistant design that, like the new 16-35mm, can withstand up to -10 degrees Fahrenheit. The 70-200mm f/2.8 will take 82mm filters and sports an 11-bladed circular aperture.

The Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. is priced at $2,597.99 and will also start shipping in January 2020.
