Sigma's Contemporary line intends to bring you a quality lens in a light and compact package. This isn't Sigma's flagship line, but does this lens have what it takes to go up against the others? It's light, small, fast, sturdy and cheap. Does this Sigma lens check all the boxes on our list?
In this video, Dunna from Dunna Did It explores whether the Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN | C lens stands up to the performance of theĀ Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di II RXD and theĀ Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM. You might say that comparing this $899 lens against a $2,200 GM lens is a bit unfair, and it might be, but I think you'll find the results interesting, to say the least. In the specs comparison, Dunna also compares it to the Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G lens, which isn't quite as expensive as the GM lens.
He starts off with a long and detailed video montage of him trekking, and if you are a videographer, this gives you a fair idea of whether this lens can perform in a typical outdoors b-roll shoot. If you're a vlogger, then the 16mm focal length, small size, and light weight are all plus points when pitted against the 16-35mm GM. He also looks into still image quality of the lens, and compares it with the other two when shooting with the Sony a7 IV.
So, with all the bases covered in this video, what do you think of the lens? Is it a good option if you just need a 16mm lens and don't need it to reach all the way out to 35mm? Would you buy it?
Slight correction, the Sigma is a 16-28, not 16-35 as stated in the 2nd paragraph.
I do like how it's internal focusing. I might consider it.
Thank you for bringing it to my notice.
