After two months of waiting, Sony a7 owners can finally round out the "holy trinity" of pro-zooms with the 16-35 f/4.0. The lens is now available in limited quantities from B&H. The 16-35mm f/4.0 ZA OSS was announced back in September at Photokina and has since generated quite a bit of buzz and excitement from photographers in many different camps including landscape shooters, events and wedding photographers, and people just looking for a wide-to-standard zoom for their a7 system.
Landscape photographer Brian Matiash, had the opportunity to play around with a pre-release version of this lens over the last couple months and was really blown away by it's optical quality, almost-pocketable size, and versatility. You can check out some of his work with the Sony 16-35mm as well as a review here.
The aperture...
F4: Keeping things incredibly sharp and light...definitely not for bokeh-batin' ;-)
Heh, I was thinking more about astro-photography. High ISO is too the point that the advantage of wide lenses is somewhat moot, but since this is the only ultra-wide lens that Sony has for e-mount, it would be nice to have a decently sharp, wide aperture UWA.
Even if that lens is produced by Sony itself.
I definitely feel a bit of a similar frustration. Their lens lineup definitely has some holes. For me the most irritating is the lack of a fast portrait lens.
